What does it mean to have digital literacy in a job title? In this reflection paper, two early career academic librarians discuss their experiences as Digital Literacy/ies Librarians. They reflect on the ambiguity and magnitude of the term digital literacy, and how they interpreted the term in their work.

Joanna Nemeth, Athabasca University

Joanna Nemeth (MLIS, BA) is the Instruction & Reference Services Librarian at Athabasca University, where she previously worked as the Digital Literacy Librarian for a term contract. She focused on creating teaching tools and providing inclusive instruction to the unique student body of exclusively distance students. In this position and in her volunteer work teaching creative writing through the Greater Edmonton Library Association's Prison Project, she has focused on creating accessible spaces for marginalized and diverse communities to engage students with creative teaching methods and active learning. 

Alissa Droog, Norther Illinois University

Alissa Droog (MLIS, MA, B.Ed., BA) is an Assistant Professor and the Education & Social Sciences Librarian at Northern Illinois University. She previously worked as the Digital Literacies Resident Librarian at the University of Alberta where she worked with the educational robotics collection, OER, information literacy instruction and instructional design. Her research interests include information literacy in higher education, diversity in children’s literature and assessment practices for academic libraries.
