Editor-in-Chief Announcement
For the last two years, I have had the pleasure of serving Pathfinder as an Associate Editor and Editor-in-Chief. The journal’s ongoing success in its quality of critically engaging content and growth in readership is reflective of its contributors' varied and compelling manuscripts. Key to Pathfnder’s accomplishments is also its incredible team of editors and reviewers. Their dedication and attention to detail have created a rare platform for Canadian LIS students and early-career professionals to refine and share their scholarship.
I am delighted to share that Arianna Alcaraz will be guiding Pathfinder as Editor-in-Chief of the 2022-2023 publication cycle. I am stepping down and moving on to support the establishment of another publication. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to support Pathfinder; this experience has deepened my skills and knowledge in scholarly communication while introducing me to so many talented people early in their library careers.
Arianna has been on the Pathfinder editorial team for two years, serving first as an Associate Editor for the 2020/2021 publication cycle, and more recently as Alternate Editor-in-Chief. She is a current online MLIS student at the University of Alberta, and she works as a production assistant for the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS), an organization that works with Canadian libraries, patrons, and publishers to make copies of books in accessible formats for readers with print disabilities.
She has a keen interest in research and a passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in LIS. Last year, she was a Diversity Scholar at Michigan State University, and most recently served as a research assistant for the Association of Research Libraries’ DEI Institute Task Force. Both positions involved identifying best practices for educating library workers on DEI-related issues. Her other LIS-related interests include knowledge organization as a method of intellectual and spatial resistance, and she looks forward to developing her own research project on the topic in the coming years. Outside of her work with libraries, she is also an experienced freelance editor and proofreader, and has worked on a variety of written materials, from full-length novels and short stories to academic essays and legal documents.
I will be shadowing Arianna in a supportive role to ensure a smooth transition of the journal’s leadership and I look forward to reading this year’s issues.
